Is Fear Preventing You or Your Child From Moving In A New Direction?

Are you at a crossroads or facing a life transition that has you so anxious that you are afraid to take any action at all? Maybe you have recently transitioned out of a long-term relationship or marriage and fear being alone for the first time in your life. Or maybe you just had a baby and you are wondering how to manage all the new responsibilities?

You may even be experiencing unexplained guilt, self-doubt, postpartum anxiety or depression that makes you question if you have what it takes to be a good parent.  Or maybe a career move, lifestyle change, or loss of a loved one is making you question your future—or even your identity— and you are seeking help for yourself.

On the other hand, maybe you are the parent of a child or teen who is having difficulty adapting to a new situation, and you are seeking help for them. Perhaps your teenage child is so preoccupied with choosing the right college or career path that they have difficulty sleeping well, eating properly, or being fully present in other areas of their life. Or maybe you are the parent of a child who is having difficulty making friends or adapting to a new school or a sudden change in the family, but you don’t know how to help them on your own.

Making major life changes and decisions can naturally create a lot of stress and uncertainty regardless of your age. At Caring Cove, we understand that change can be frightening. But we also recognize its potential to foster growth and self-improvement. With our help, you can learn how to manage your anxiety, develop a different relationship with your thoughts and emotions, learn practical solutions for navigating life changes, and live a life driven by your values.

Everyone Responds To Life’s Challenges Differently

Change is an inherent part of life. But when the fear and uncertainty of that change become the driving force in your life, it prevents your values from guiding your actions. The inability to make decisions, believe in yourself, or take action can make you feel like you are at the mercy of life, itself, with no control or agency over the future.

Unfortunately, societal pressure can sometimes feed self-doubt and insecurity. For instance, children and teens are often under extreme pressure to be smart, popular, athletic, and engaged in extracurricular activities. And young people are expected to know what they want for themselves and to have a game plan straight out of high school and college. But not every young person is ready or even capable of making those decisions on their own.

Moreover, social media helps drive an unhealthy obsession with perfection that distorts how we view ourselves and what we are capable of. Comparing yourself to the staged lives of Instagram or Facebook friends can make you feel completely inadequate or incompetent.

And for new parents, there is so much information out there on how to raise healthy children, just knowing who to listen to can create a lot of stress and uncertainty. Meanwhile, TV shows, celebrities, magazines, and advertisements can provide daily unrealistic examples of happiness and success that can be impossible to achieve for anyone.

The truth is, the only expectations you have to live up to are your own. That’s why one of our primary goals at Caring Cove is to help you realize what you truly want for yourself and how to attain it. Together, we can collaborate to develop personalized strategies for overcoming fear and doubt so you can live a life in accordance with your values and desires.

Life Transitions Counseling Can Help You or Your Child Realize Your True Potential

Working with a therapist gives you or your child a safe and non-judgmental space in which to explore problems, collaborate on practical solutions, and find sustainable relief from stress and anxiety. We can help identify core values and aspirations so that they become the guide rather than fear and uncertainty. Whatever is going on in your life or your child’s life, we want to empower you. with a new perspective that will enable you to take on future challenges with confidence and success.

Unlike some traditional approaches that dig deep into your past, we like to focus on the present and proceed from there. To that end, we will look at the challenges that are holding you back, discuss your values as tools, address how you are being affected on a daily basis, and move towards accomplishing your goals. Because fear is such a huge part of making life changes, we will work to identify what you feel is the greatest fear-related obstacle standing in your way. We’ll also explore other triggers and how the resulting emotions may be fueling self-defeating thoughts and behaviors and preventing you from being present.

We use a strength-based, solution-focused approach to healing that can be tailored to your specific needs. Our primary treatment method is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a data-driven therapeutic tool with over 20 years of research proving its effectiveness. CBT acknowledges that how we think, act, and feel are all interrelated. By making small changes to an individual part, we can change the whole system. Additionally, we may utilize exposure therapy, which is a process of gradually breaking down barriers that may be holding you back.

Another treatment we use is called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which teaches mindfulness, acceptance, and behavioral change strategies. The goal of this treatment is to improve quality of life and increase value-driven behavior while expanding your skill set for managing difficult thoughts and feelings.

We understand you probably feel stuck and alone right now. But therapy can help you smoothly transition through difficult changes, make important decisions confidently, and improve your overall quality of life. At Caring Cove, we can help you overcome the fear of the future and align your life with your values so that you can be successful on your own terms.

Perhaps you are considering counseling for a difficult life transition but still have concerns…

I don’t think I can make the time for counseling.

Right now, the incessant worrying and inaction are likely taking up a lot of time that you could be using to pursue personal or professional goals. Unlike traditional talk therapy, CBT has a structured timetable and aims to provide you with help in as few sessions as possible.

I’ve been through therapy before and I didn’t see any improvements.

At Caring Cove, we don’t use a one-size-fits-all method for making important life transitions. Rather, we provide evidence-based healing that is tailored to the specific challenges you are facing.

Once we tap into what your personal needs, goals, and values are, we will collaborate on a strategy for healing and problem-solving that speaks to you as an individual. Throughout treatment, we will also be discussing and monitoring progress in order to make adjustments to the treatment plan if needed.

I am concerned about the financial cost of life transitions counseling.

At this point, fear and self-doubt are likely causing you to miss out on opportunities for greater prosperity, happier relationships, and a better quality of life.  While we understand that finances are a significant concern, we believe that the cost of not receiving evidence-based care is greater. Therapy is an upfront investment that minimizes long-term costs.

Although we do not accept insurance at this time, we are more than happy to help you navigate the insurance process and determine if you have out of network coverage prior to your first appointment.  Many of our current patients have reported receiving from 70 percent to 100 percent reimbursement.
